This physiological stress is normal and lasts only for a short time. But the constant feeling of unresolved stress is exhausting on the mind and body, draining energy supplies and often leading to depression.  Some people feed their depression and stress with excess food, while other may not eat and lose weight. An excess of stress can lead to a nervous breakdown. Some clinicians consider weight gain as the visible expression of a nervous breakdown.
